Units of Measure in odoo16 simplifies the quantification of products stored in the database. This feature streamlines the measurement of both small and large quantities of commodities. Additionally, it proves valuable when purchasing goods from regions using the imperial system, as it facilitates unit conversion. In Odoo, creating and utilizing UoMs is a straightforward process. These units primarily serve for tracking inventory items, specifying quantities, and aiding in the measurement and monitoring of quantities.
Inventory ‣ Configuration ‣ Units of Measure Categories
Odoo can perform unit conversion for a product, but this conversion is possible only when both units are part of the same category.
Here, you have access to a list of Units of Measure, displaying the pre-configured units along with their associated category and type information.
You can easily create new Units of Measure by using the New button.
For instance, if you want to sell a product in a box containing six units
> Name the Unit of measure category
> Then, click on “Add a line.”
> In the “Unit of Measure” field, give a name to the new unit, such as “Boxes and for ‘’Type”, select “Bigger than the reference Unit of Measure.”
> In the “Ratio”, input the value 6 since a box of six is six times larger than the reference unit, which has a ratio of 1.
> Finally, click “Save.”
To designate the units of measure for a product, follow these steps:
Inventory ‣ Products ‣ Products
Select the product you wish to configure.
In the “Unit of Measure” field, specify the unit of measure in which the product is sold. This unit will also be used for inventory tracking and internal transfers related to the product.
Edit the “Purchase UoM” field to define the unit of measure for purchasing the product.
By making these adjustments, you can specify the appropriate units of measure for the product’s sales and purchase operations.
When purchasing products, Odoo simplifies the process of using the product’s designated Purchase Unit of Measure (UoM).
Creating a Request for Quotation (RFQ)
When generating a new RFQ, Odoo automatically incorporates the product’s specified Purchase UoM. However, if necessary, you can manually edit the UoM directly on the RFQ.
Once the RFQ is confirmed and converted into a Purchase Order (PO), you can find the “Receipt” smart button at the top right corner of the PO.
Open the receipts.
Odoo automatically performs the conversion between the purchase unit of measure and the product’s sales/inventory unit of measure. As a result, the “Demand” column on the delivery receipt reflects the converted quantity.
In this specific example, it’s clear that only 1 quantity was ordered, and each box contains 6 units. So, when the purchase order is created for 1 box (quantity), it effectively corresponds to acquiring 6 individual units of the product. This illustrates how the unit conversion works, ensuring that the correct quantity is reflected in both the purchase order and the subsequent delivery receipt.
When selling products Odoo streamlines the process of using the product’s designated Unit of Measure (UoM).
Creating a Quotation
When you create a new quotation Odoo automatically applies the product’s specified Unit of Measure. However, you have the flexibility to manually edit the UoM on the quotation if necessary.
Confirming Quotation into a Sales Order (SO): Once the quotation is sent to the customer and confirmed, it becomes a Sales Order (SO).
To view the converted quantity, you can click on the “Delivery” smart button at the top right corner of the SO. Odoo automatically converts the UoM into the product’s inventory unit of measure. This ensures that the “Demand” column on the delivery reflects the converted quantity.
