Managing Post-Dated Cheques for Invoices and Bills in Odoo 19

Managing cash flow effectively is essential for every business, especially when customers and vendors prefer to settle payments using post-dated cheques (PDCs). Although a post-dated cheque confirms a future payment commitment, businesses cannot treat it as an immediately available bank balance. Therefore, companies need a reliable way to record these transactions without affecting their actual cash position.

Odoo 19 provides a practical and accounting-friendly approach to managing post-dated cheques for both customer invoices and vendor bills. Instead of directly posting the amount to your bank account, Odoo temporarily records the payment in dedicated holding accounts until the cheque reaches its maturity date and the bank clears it. As a result, businesses maintain accurate financial records while improving cash flow visibility and reducing reconciliation errors.

In this guide, you will learn how to configure Post-Dated Cheques in Odoo 19, create the required accounting structure, process customer and vendor payments, reconcile bank transactions, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
